Sorry my posts have been few and far between. This was a post worthy occasion though...
Most of you know that Don and I try to be environmentally conscious as much as possible. In fact, we try to look at our smaller living arrangement these days as our way of "being green" and saving energy. Don, perhaps because he's in the oil/gas pipeline business, is also very mindful of our gas usage. Since May last year when his Accord was totaled, I've been driving the Outback we got to replace it, and Don had been driving my Honda Civic - "the sipper". Last month we decided we were outgrowing the sipper, even though we loved those MPG's. So we took the plunge and got a Ford Fusion Hybrid! Don's been wanting one for years and now that he finally has one, he's in love with it. To be honest, we are both pretty big dorks about tracking the MPG we get on every trip. So far, our best ever trip was 60mpg. Granted, it was only a 1 mile trip and was mostly downhill, but we were so excited.
So far we've noticed that the efficiency isn't as good in cold weather, probably because the battery takes a while to heat up. On our cold days, I average in the high 30's during my regular commute. But now that we're having some warmer weather (50's and 60's) we're getting awesome mileage - over 40 MPG this last week.
Bring on summer!
