This past month, Don and I participated in one of my Rotary Club's biggest projects, the Georgia Rotary Scholarship Program. This is a program that allows students from all over the world to study for a year at colleges all over Georgia. Each student is sponsored by a club, hopefully close to the school they attend. Students have a host Rotary family while they're here in the States who helps them get settled and keeps in touch as their "family" while they are away from home.
Once a year, our club hosts a big leadership retreat for all of the Students who are in the GRSP program. On MLK weekend, these students all travel to Atlanta to attend our conference. Members of the Atlanta area Rotary clubs serve as hosts for the weekend. This is the second year that Don and I have hosted a student for this weekend. Tatiana was our student this year, and she is from Moldovia. We really enjoyed getting to know her and had a great weekend being her "host family".
There were dinners to attend with the rest of the club and all the students, but after those we still had time to hang out at home. Friday night we watched the movie Baby Mama, which we all enjoyed. The second night, Don wanted to watch UNC basketball, so while we did that we played a round of our newest game - Shut the Box.
It was a short weekend, but we really enjoyed getting to know Tatiana and look forward to many future years of being a host family in this program!
